This presentation, spearheaded by safety experts, advocates for the refinement and enhancement of Construction Industry Institute’s Zero Accident Techniques to better align with current industry conditions and safety knowledge. Speaker Bios:
John Gambatese is a Professor in the School of Civil and Construction Engineering at Oregon State University. Dr. Gambatese’s educational background includes Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley, and a PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Washington. He has worked in industry for six years as a structural engineer in San Francisco and for one year as a project engineer for a construction management firm in Seattle. He started his current position at Oregon State University in 2000 following three years on the faculty at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Dr. Gambatese’s expertise is in the broad areas of construction engineering and management, and structural engineering. He has taught many courses over his career on a variety of subjects including: construction safety, contracts and specifications, planning and scheduling, structural analysis and design, temporary construction structures, construction site systems engineering, and engineering economics. He has performed research and published numerous articles on construction worker safety, work zone design and safety, prevention through design, risk management, sustainability, constructability, innovation, and construction contracting. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP). He is a member of the National Academy of Construction (NAC) and a licensed Professional Civil Engineer in California.
Vineeth Dharmapalan is an Assistant Professor in the Construction Management department at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly). Dr. Dharmapalan’s educational background includes BS degree in civil engineering from Mumbai University, a MS degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Construction Engineering Management from Oregon State University, a MS in Statistics and a PhD in Civil Engineering with emphasis in Construction Engineering and Project Management from the University of Texas at Austin. He has worked in industry for five years where he has been part of multiple large-scale projects ranging from commercial buildings to industrial facilities. He started his current position at Cal Poly in 2022. His expertise includes project production systems, risk and information management, and data analytics, with past work touching on environmental sustainability, safety risk management, technology implementation in construction, and supply chain information transparency. Currently, his research focuses on enhancing community and housing resilience against natural disasters, improving safety practices, and addressing the interface between human and technology safety, investigating innovation and anticipated changes of job roles and skills to support future-ready workforce.
